Over the past 12 months, a rather unusual book has been written, which the author would like to introduce here. At least an excerpt or a chapter from it might be of interest for readers. The book is conceived as a “holistic reflection” on our present, on pressing cultural, social, and especially political questions, from the perspective of AI.
It is explicitly not about evaluating or classifying AI, or offering a glimpse into its future, but rather, conversely, about taking stock of humanity’s current predicament, with all its hyper-complex challenges, from the perspective of AI. The title is “The Machine Philosopher – The Human Condition Confronted by AI”.
The development of AI and its effects have been described in great detail by prominent authors; the topic is exhausted here. Applications in industry and design are now also accessible and familiar to everyone.
What interests the author all the more is: what does a reflection on highly fragile and complex human questions actually look like from the perspective of AI? What can we learn about ourselves when profoundly philosophical and cultural questions like art, religion, and philosophy are examined from an omniscient, technological perspective? What surreal, yet also very real and inspiring, results can this lead to?
The author is an architect and internationally active urban planner who has lived between cultures for decades (the last 20 years have been spent primarily in Shanghai, China). Through its focus on themes, questions, and perspectives, the book also forms a synopsis of my personal impressions, questions, and experiences, matured over decades between these vastly different cultures.

The topics range from AI itself to timeless fields such as art, religion, psychology, and philosophy, and extend to contemporary political issues including universal basic income and the growing division of society. Alongside these themes, the author reflects on personal challenges such as deep introspection and intellectual pressure. Altogether, the book sketches a broad, cautiously utopian outlook on the future.
Classical disciplines like art, religion, and philosophy are examined through a historical lens. What was art, and what is it today? How has the role of religion or philosophy evolved over centuries? What now provides moral continuity and emotional integration? And might a world without religion be more stable – or less?
Political questions are addressed in light of current pressures; societal division as a central challenge of our era, universal basic income as a response to large-scale job displacement caused by AI and automation, and the increasingly explicit global competition between political systems.
The author also offers personal insight into his own psyche, revealing how he navigates the everyday intellectual demands of the modern world.
Finally, the book playfully outlines a utopian vision of the future in which political fundamentals are redesigned from the ground up toward a sustainable equilibrium. This concept, called Abundancy, serves both as the name of a radically new theoretical political system and as a scientific term for the emerging age humanity is about to enter.
Foreword
This book is not intended to take part in highly sophisticated academic discourse. It does not aspire to contribute new scientific arguments to narrowly defined expert debates – and how could it, given the wide range of topics it addresses?
Rather, its purpose is to illustrate the use and potential of AI as a tool for expanding one’s horizons across many fascinating subjects that occupy our minds in everyday life. It is written from a personal perspective and should be understood as an ordinary person thoughtfully debating the important questions of our time with an AI. In this way, it aims to be relatable, allowing readers to recognize themselves – kindly and without judgment – in the occasionally “naive” questions the author raises.
At the same time, the author brings a lifelong passion for natural science, psychology, philosophy, cultural studies, history, and art. No more and no less than many of us – perhaps just a quirky inch deeper in some areas.
The book is also meant to offer those of an older generation – our parents, for instance – who may not yet feel comfortable using AI, an accessible and enjoyable introduction to the subject. The chapters can be read as self-contained short pieces, inviting curiosity rather than demanding expertise. At the same time, the scientifically inclined reader may find their understanding of several important topics enriched.
Ultimately, this work is a reflection of lifelong thoughts and ideas, shaped and matured over time, before finally finding form in this book.
Considerable mental energy went into its conception, structure, and execution. The sustained intellectual exchange – and at times struggle – with an ever-powerful AI left the author exhausted.
Yet the results were worth every effort: at times remarkable, and occasionally even startling.
